Recap

Stanley Joinery Matamata Swifts have defeated Ngongotaha, one of the league’s leading sides, in what is their best win of the season.

Last weekend Ngongotaha was knocked out of the Chatham Cup at the round of sixteen by NRFL Division 1 side, Melville United. The score then was 2-1 and a week later little had changed.

A goal from Callum Barr had the Swifts level at 1-1 at half time, then when Bjorn Vossen struck home a penalty six minutes after the break an unlikely victory looked on.

Matamata maintained that lead to the final whistle. Three more points, to go with the excellent recent haul, helps the side move further from relegation. The confidence that comes with beating a good side will be welcome as this young side continues to develop.
